A fine pair of Meiji period (1868-1912) Japanese Imari bowls made for the domestic market. The bowls are intricately painted in underglaze blue, iron red, green, and gilt and were made as ordered articles or presentation pieces for a special occasion such as “the year of the rabbit”.
