Jules Le Roy
(1856-1922)

Jules Le Roy was a painter from the French school who specialized in the figures of animals, mostly cats and kittens, usually of small size. The main subjects in most of Le Roy’s paintings, which became popular in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States, are kittens.

Even though Le Roy has a very distinct original style, his work can be easily confused with the works of other French cat-painters, such as Julius Adam (1826-1874), Yvonne Marie Yo Laur, and Eugene Louis Lambert (1825-1900), and Belgium artist, Henriette Ronner-Knip (1821-1909).
