French Louis XV Period, Mahogany, Bordelais Commode
Description: A fine French Louis XV period, mahogany commode from the Bordeaux region. The commode has a molded and curved form (galbée) with paneled sides and rests on four curved feet. It has four drawers in three rows divided by crosspieces with lovely varnished bronze hardware typical of commodes from this region.
This commodes resembles other examples of Bordelais commodes shown on pages 75 and 106 of the book, Le Meuble de Port, by Louis Malfoy, 1992, les éditions de l’amateur and pages 114 and 115 of the book, Les Arts Décoratifs Bordelais, by Jacqueline du Pasquier, 1991, les éditions de l’amateur.
