Pair of French Louis XVI Period, Grey-Painted Fauteuils Stamped by Jean-Baptiste Boulard
Description: A fine pair of French Louis XVI period, carved, grey-painted fauteuils stamped by Jean-Baptiste Boulard, who became a master joiner in 1755. Each fauteuil has a square back with down swept arms and a seat rail carved with rope twist and entralacs. The padded back, arms, and seat are covered in 18th century, Aubusson tapestry depicting a flower-filled vase within an oval reserve against a floral ground. The fauteuils have turned, tapering, fluted legs headed by paterae and ending in toupie feet, each stamped to underside of front seat rail, and each with Chenue transit label.
