French Régence, Walnut, Two-Drawer Commode Attributed to Pierre Hache
Description: A fine and rare French Régence, carved, walnut, two-drawer commode en arbalète attributed to Pierre Hache, who was known for his talent in carved furniture and began working for his father, Thomas Hache, in 1725. The commode rests on four, beautifully carved legs that end with hoof feet. The horizontal side panels and carvings and the shape of the legs are details typical of Hache. The placement of the locks on the curved drawers is also an indication of Hache’s work.
There is a similar commode shown on page 274 in Pierre Rouge and Françoise Rouge’s recent book, Le génie des HACHE. Editions Faton, 2005.
