French Louis XV Period, Mahogany, Bordelais Commode
Description: A fine French Louis XV period, carved, mahogany commode from the Bordeaux region. The commode has three rows of drawers, two of which are on the top. The small curved feet, a significant attribute of this type of commode from this region, end with carved leaf motifs. The beautiful apron has carvings of small flowers and acanthus leaves. The chiseled bronze hardware which appears to be correct for the commode may not be original.
This commode resembles other examples of Bordelais commodes shown on pages 75 and 106 of the book, Le Meuble de Port, by Louis Malfoy, 1992, les éditions de l’amateur and pages 114 and 115 of the book, Les Arts Décoratifs Bordelais, by Jacqueline du Pasquier, 1991, les éditions de l’amateur.
